To be a Messenger (TM) subscriber, you will be required to complete an MTN Nigeria subscriber agreement.

The completed forms are to be returned to the friendship centers, forms filled at the dealer outlets are also to be returned to the Friendship centers.

Once the above requirements are met, the system would automatically allocate a randomly generated MSISDN to the Messenger SIM after verifying if the above amounts have been paid (Unless a Golden Number has been specified). Activation of Messenger SIMS would ONLY be done at the Friendship centers.

MTN will provide you with an itemised bill that will set out your monthly access fee as well as the total amount for calls made during the month.

Frequently asked Questions

How to check your Account Balance on the Messenger (TM) Package.

This is done by dialling 3001. Calls to access the balance in this way would be charged at the rate of a normal voice call.
The subscriber would be notified via SMS on the status of his/her account. The information accessible to the subscriber would include:

1. The Credit Limit on that account
2. The debit balance of the subscribers’ account. This includes current subscription and airtime usage.

What credit limits govern this Product?

Subscribers using this service would have a credit limit of =N=10,000.00 monthly. Once subscribers are nearing their credit limit, SMS messages would be sent to the subscriber warning the subscriber of the fact that they are nearing their limits. If the limits have been exceeded the line of the subscriber would be soft suspended. This implies that the subscriber would not be able to make outgoing calls.

What do i do if my line gets Suspended?

Once the subscribers credit limit has been reached the subscribers line will be soft suspended. If the bills are not settled 21 days after the bill has been sent, the subscriber will have his/her line hard suspended.

In other to remedy the situation, the subscriber would need to pay on his/her account at any Friendship Center or at any of the following banks:

Citibank
Diamond Bank
Standard Chartered Bank.

Payment made on the account would lift the suspension, however subscribers who pay in banks would not have the credit hitting their account until the following day. Lifting suspension is not automatic; the suspension would need to be lifted on Flagship for the line to be restored.

Deactivation of lines

Lines of subscribers would be deactivated if they default in payment. If a subscriber defaults in payments for two bill runs consecutively, he line would be deactivated. This means that 21 days after the bill of the second month has been sent out and the client does not come to pay on the account the line would be deactivated.

Migration of Prepaid Subscribers to the Messenger Package

Any subscriber that wishes to migrate to the Messenger package may do so provided the following criteria’s are met;

- A form of identification, which could be a driver’s license or International passport.

- Completion of a subscriber agreement form and handing in such at any Friendship center of dealer outlet. In the form the subscriber would be required to write his/her current MSISDN and SIM number in the form.

- Payment of monthly access fee of =N=1,500.00

- Payment of security deposit of =N=10,000.00

In addition, value added services which may initially apply such, as International calling would now be removed from the profile of the subscriber. Airtime credit loaded on the phone and not used before the migration takes place would be carried over and credited into the account of the migrating prepaid subscriber.


Other terms and condition as may apply to Messenger subscribers would apply to the migrating prepaid or postpaid subscriber.


Prorata Billing

At the end of the initial month the customer will receive his bill. The bill will reflect a credit for the days that the customer was not yet active i.e. although the customer pays for a full month when he/she applies to move to Messenger they will be credited for the days that they were not yet connected to the MTN Network for that month.
