What is MTN Data bundle?

MTN Data bundles have been revamped to be affordable, giving you more value for money and excellent internet experience on MTN data network.


Who can subscribe to MTN Data bundle?

All MTN Customers can subscribe to any MTN Data bundle.


How do I subscribe to MTN Data bundles?

You can subscribe to any MTN Data bundles via the following channels:

  • USSD: Dialling *131*1# or *904# and selecting your preferred data plan
  • SMS: Sending the bundle plan keyword to 131. (See table below for keywords).
  • On data reset page upon exhaustion of data bundle

I just received a pop-up menu to choose either One-off or Recurrent option after activating a data bundle. What does this mean?

The Pop-up menu  is a new feature that allows you to set your data bundle on One-off or Recurrent purchase:

  • One-Off Purchase means that your data bundle will not renew after expiry.
  • Recurrent Purchase means your data bundle will auto-renew after expiry.

If I exit the Pop-Up Menu or it times out before selecting an option, will my data bundle be on One-off or Recurrent option?

If you exit the Pop-Up Menu or it times out before selecting an option, your data bundle will be on One-off purchase. This means that your data bundle will not auto-renew upon expiry.


If my data bundle is on One-off option, will I be able to opt in for Recurrent option or renew the bundle?

Yes, you will be able to opt in for Recurrent option or renew the bundle by sending R+bundle code to 131.

Example: If you have an active 50MB daily bundle that is on One-off option, you will be able to renew it by sending R104 to 131.

Will I be able to cancel auto-renewal anytime?

Yes, you will be able to cancel auto-renewal on your bundle anytime by sending the opt-out keyword to 131. See table below.


What are the different MTN Data bundles plans available?

They are Daily, Weekly, Monthly, quarterly etc. See table below for the available data bundles


How do I check my MTN Data Bundle balance?

You will be able to check your data bundle balance  via the following channels:

  • SMS: Texting 2 to 131
  • USSD: Dialling *131*4# (main data balance) and *559*63# (data bonus balance)
  • MyMTNApp

Can I purchase multiple MTN Data bundles?

Yes, you can activate multiple data bundles and all the data bundle purchased will have its own unique expiry dates.


If I have multiple data bundles active, which bundle will deplete first?

If you have multiple data bundles active, the data bundle with the least validity will be used first.

Example: If you have a 30-day bundle plan and 1day plan active, the 1 day plan will be used first before the 30-day plan.


What happens if I exhaust my data bundle before the renewal date?

As soon as you exhaust your data bundle before the expiry, your data access will be suspended and you will not be able to browse again. To continue browsing, you will need to do one of the following:

  • Buy another data plan by dialling *131*1# or *904#,
  • Borrow data by dialing *606#
  • Opt-in for a Pay As You Go browsing by dialing *131*200# to continue browsing from your airtime @N3/MB

Will I be able to enjoy data bonus on any of the MTN data plans?

Yes, you will be able to enjoy data bonus on the following data bundles after activating them.

  • 25MB Bonus on 50MB Daily Plan.
  • 75MB Bonus on 150MB Daily Plan.
  • 250MB Bonus on the 500MB weekly plan
  • 500MB Bonus on the 1GB monthly plan
  • 1GB Bonus on the 2.5GB monthly plan

Will I enjoy other data bonus offers when I activate a data bundle?

Yes, you will be able to enjoy 100% data bonus offer on the main data when you activate a new device on the network.


For how long will I enjoy the 100% device offer?

You will enjoy the 100% device offer for 3months after activating a new device.


Will I get 100% on bonus if I activate a data bundle with bonus?

No, you will ONLY enjoy the 100% on the main data bundle and the data bonus will be credited into the data bonus account.

Example: If you are currently enjoying the 100% device offer and activate either 50MB or 150MB daily bundle, you will receive a total of 125MB on 50MB and 225MB for 150MB. However, 75MB OR 225MB respectively will be credited in your data main account and 50MB/150MB (Device bonus) in device data account.


Will my data bonus be credited with my main data bundle?

Apart from the 25MB data bonus on 50MB and 75MB on 150MB Daily Plan, all other data bonus will be credited to the data bonus account.


Will I be able to view my data bonus?

Yes, you will be able to view your data bonus by dialling *559*63#.


Will I be able to use the data on my data bonus account all day?

No, you will ONLY be able to use data bonus from the data bonus account between 1am-7am daily.


Will I be able to rollover my unused main data bundle?

Yes, you will be able to roll over any unused main data bundle as long as you buy another bundle before the current bundle expires or within the allowed grace period after the bundle expires BUT you will NOT be able to rollover any unused data bonus on the data bonus account.

My 5GB Monthly data bundle has expired and I have 1GB remaining. Will I be able to rollover the remaining 1GB when I buy a daily bundle?

Yes, you can rollover your unused 1GB bundle when you activate any data bundle be it daily, weekly OR monthly.


What will happen if I do not renew my expired bundle or purchase another bundle after the rollover period?

If you fail to renew your expired bundle or purchase another bundle after the rollover period, all your unused bundle will be cleared. 


I have 1GB left after my bundle expired. Will I be able to use it within the rollover period?

No, you will not be able to use it within the rollover period until you renew the bundle or purchase any another bundle.


Can I rollover my unused data on my data bonus account?

No, you will not be able to roll over any unused data bonus in the data bonus account even if the bundle auto-renews before  expiry, upon expiry or within the applicable rollover period

Example: If you activate the 500MB weekly plan + 250MB Bonus and on the day of expiry you have 500MB remaining in your data main account and 100MB in your bonus account. After renewal, the remaining 500MB data bundle will be rolled over to the new data and unused 100MB will be cleared. This means that you will have 1GB in your data main account and 250MB in your bonus account.


If I activate the same data bundle with bonus multiple times, will I be able to use the bonus of the first bundle I activated?

 Yes, if you activate the same data bundle with bonus multiple times, you will be able to use the data bonus of the first bundle until the last day of its expiry or it is exhausted after which your data activities will be charged from the next data bonus. But on the day of renewal, only the last bundle activated will be auto renewed.

Example: If you have activate 500MB Weekly plan + 250MB Bonus on April 5th and activate the same data plan on April 7th, you will be able to use the data bonus of the bundle activated on April 5th until it is exhausted or last day of its expiry.


If I have multiple data bundles active, which bundle will auto-renew first?

If you have multiple data bundles active from the various plans, the last bundle purchased from that plan will be the bundle that will be auto-renewed. I.e. All bundles will renew according to their bundle category – daily, weekly and monthly.

Example: if you activate two data plans from the daily plans; (50MB on Oct 1, 150MB on Oct 5), two plans from the weekly plan; (500MB on Oct 3 and 1GB on Oct 4), on the day of renewal, only 150MB from the daily plan and 1GB from the weekly plan will be the plans to auto-renew.


Will I be able to browse from my airtime automatically after exhausting my data bundle?

You will be able to browse from your airtime after exhausting your data bundle BUT you will be required to opt in before you can browse from your airtime at Pay As You Go rate.


Can I share my MTN Data bundle?

No, you will not be able to share your data bundle.


I have 1GB + 500MB bonus data plan active and then activated 1.5GB Monthly Data plan, which of them will used first?

The 1GB + 500MB bonus data plan will be used first (1GB at any time of the day and the data bonus of 500MB can only be used from 1.00am to 7.00am) and after the data bundle has been exhausted then data charges will be deducted from the new 1.5GB Monthly plan.


Will I be able to browse from my airtime automatically after exhausting my data bundle?

You will be able to browse from your airtime after exhausting your data bundle BUT you will be required to opt in before you can browse from your airtime at Pay As You Go rate.


How do I opt in for PAYG browsing?

To opt in for PAYG browsing, simply;

  • Dial *131*200#.
  • Send RESET to 131.

How much will I be charged for browsing from my airtime after opting in for PAYG browsing?

Your browsing from your airtime will be charged at N3/MB.


Will I be charged for opting in for PAYG browsing?

No, you will not be charged for opting in for PAYG browsing.


How do I opt out of PAYG browsing?

To opt out of PAYG browsing, simply

  • Dial *131*201#
  • Send SUSPEND to 131.
