What is MTN XtraByte?
MTN XtraByte is a service that allows eligible customers borrow data on credit when they run out of data while browsing and pay back on their next recharge.
Will MTN XtraByte be available to all customers?
No, MTN XtraByte will ONLY be available to customers that are eligible for the service.
What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for Xtrabyte service, you MUST:

  1. You Be a Prepaid customer.
  2. Have registered your number.
  3. Have been on the MTN network for more than 6 months.
  4. Have spent at least N200 each month for the last 3 months.
  5. Have between N0 and N12 in your main account.
  6. Paid up any outstanding Xtrabyte loan request.
How can I check if am eligible to use the service?
You can check you are eligible for the service by dialling *606# and then selecting 1.
How can I borrow data?
You can borrow data by dialling *606#, then select option 3 ‘Request Data (Xtrabyte)’.
Can I borrow data if I have an existing airtime loan that I have not paid back?
Yes, you can borrow another data or airtime while you are owing data and as long as you are still within your credit limit.
Will I be able to borrow airtime or data multiple times within my credit limit?
Yes, you will be able to borrow airtime or data multiple times as long as you are within your credit limit.
What are the different data bundles available on XtraByte?

Can I exceed my lending band in a month?
No, you cannot exceed your credit limit in a month. Note: Your credit limit in a month can either increase or decrease but this is based on your recharge activities in the previous month.
I borrowed data but cannot browse?
This is because you might have finished your data or airtime. You will need to check the data balance in your XtraTime account before you start browsing. To check your data balance, simply dial 606# or *131*4#, then select 4 ‘XtraTime Balance’ to see breakdown of your account balances.
Will the data I borrowed be loaded into my data main account?
No, the data borrowed will be loaded into a special Xtrabyte dedicated account. To check the data balance, dial *606#, then select check balance or *131*4#.
How will I pay back data borrowed using Xtrabyte?
You will be able to pay back any outstanding amount by recharging via physical recharge, DYA, On Demand, airtime from a friend through Share N Sell or received airtime through any other means.
Can I view my transaction history?
Yes, you will be able to view your transaction history by dialling *606# and then select transaction history.
Is there a service charge for using MTN XtraByte?
Yes, you will be charged a service fee of 15% on all data request. The service charge will be added to the data amount loaned.

For example, if you request for 10MB that ordinarily costs N50, once the request is approved, you will be credited with the data allowance BUT your main account will be debited with N57.5 (N50 bundle fee + N15 service fee).
Will the data borrowed have an expiry date/validity?
Yes, all data bundles have its own validity date. See table below:

Will the data borrowed auto renew after expiry?
The data borrowed will NOT renew after expiry.
How can I check the data balance in my XtraByte account?
You can check the data balance in your XtraByte account, by dialling the USSD code *606#, then selecting check balance or *131*4#.
Will I be able to transfer data from my XtraByte account to another customer’s account?
No, you will NOT be able to transfer data from your XtraByte account to another customer’s account.
Will I be able to browse after I exhaust the data?
No, your browsing session will be suspended unless you have any active data bonus. However, you will able to borrow another data as long as you are within your credit limit
What happens when the amount recharged is not enough to pay back completely the data borrowed using Xtrabyte?
When the recharge amount is less than the outstanding XtraByte data amount, your main account will still be in negative subsequent recharges will be used to recover whatever is outstanding until the loan is fully recovered.
What happens when the amount recharged by a customer is more than the amount borrowed using Xtrabyte?
When the recharge amount is greater than the outstanding data amount, the data amount will be deducted first and the balance loaded into your main account.
What happens when a customer recharges her/his account using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, instead of the standard recharge code, *555*…?
In cases where you recharge using a different recharge code, e.g. AWUF4U, the XtraByte amount borrowed will be deducted first from the amount recharged, then the balance or any associated bonus will be loaded into their respective dedicated accounts.
Can I pay back the XtraByte data borrowed via Share ’n’ Sell?
Yes, any airtime received via any channel can be used to pay off any outstanding XtraTime loan.
Can I pay back XtraByte using credit/bonus in any other dedicated account?
No, you cannot use any credit/bonus/freebie in any of your dedicated account(s) to offset the MTN XtraByte loan incurred.
Do I need to pay back data borrowed even if I have not used it?
Yes, the data amount borrowed will be deducted once you recharge, regardless of how much data you have used.
What account will be charged first when I have data in any other data account and XtraByte account?
In cases where you have data in other data account and XtraByte account active, the browsing fee will be deducted from the XtraByte account first before charging other data account.
Can I borrow additional data even if am still owing?
Yes, you can borrow multiple data even if you are yet to pay back the data borrowed as long as you are within your credit limit.
Is there a limit on the number of times I can borrow data?
You can borrow data multiple times as long as you are still within your credit limit.
